A scary companionship!

February 22, 2016

Well hello there all my cherished and loved family and friends! How art thou all? Is life treating you all well? It has been interesting out here as always! It is really cool being in a city with such crazy history! Always new things to see and learn! Now for the weekly rundown!

Tuesday:

We studied and went to the church for district meeting. I watched the Restoration in Serbian cuz I want to learn these languages XD We then went and got some Burek for lunch which is always very good and nice 😀 We then had a pretty average district meeting as I taught about clitics 😀 We then had a lesson with Denis (Whom we contacted into the week before) and taught him the restoration, then he accepted a baptismal date for March 19! So we will see if it works out! We then taught english and had a TON of people there….it was crazy, we made some Korean beef for dinner 😀

Wednesday:

We went to the church and planned english class for the transfer, then came to the apartment for lunch. We contacted and eventually went to the office for a lesson with Denis and Alda, we talked about prayer, then afterwords Denis stayed for the Self reliance class while Alda waited in the hall, we came back the the apartment and made cinnamon rolls! We went contacted and forgot about the rising dough…..we came back 3 hours later to a giant mound of dough all over our table O.o

such a baker!

Thursday:

We did some studying up on other religions so we could talk to people about them, then met with Denis and taught the word of wisdom, which he openly accepted! We came back and made boiled eggs for lunch, we contacted, then made sweet and sour chicken for dinner! Yum 🙂 We had a really good english class and thats mainly it!

Friday:

We went contacting for a bit, then came back for ramen lunch 😀 After lunch we did weekly planning which was just great and long as always! We made some Palačinke for dinner then Elder Swink broke the phone XD So we had to meet up with the sisters to use theirs to fix ours XD fun times! We had a lesson with Alda and it went well! Just a regular Cafič lesson. We came back and talked about scary things and scary movies for hours, cuz we are both obsessed XD

Saturday:

We cleaned up the apartment for a check, then had a lesson with Denis, we watched the Restoration and it went well! We came back and made some garlic noodles, then went out more! That is mainly it! We quoted spongebob for hours and it was GREAT.

Sunday:

We planned our lesson for church, went to church, had church, and yeah! Not much out the normal happened at church actually, but yeah! We came back and Elder Swink felt sick and slept a while. We went out with no main success, but we came back and had teriyaki beef with fries 😀

Hello everyone! First I will start with a short serbo-croatian lesson! So with verbs you have to conjugate them based on who you are talking about! The most common I see is Volim te 🙂 So the verb itself (To love) Is Voljeti. So to say ´I love you´ you would say ´volim te´. to say ´we love you´you would say ´volimo te´. yeah 🙂 now you can all speak balkaneze!

Anyway…this week!
Monday:
Absolutely crazy day! We began by hurrying to the church so Elder Sheesley could email a bit. Then we went to get him deregistered. Fun….we ended up at the senior couples house and got the car, we drove back to the apartment. We went out to lunch and got some nice normal burek. Good as always. then to Bašćaršija, to buy some souvenirs. I bought a prayer rug 🙂 We went back to the apartment and burnt stuff for my month mark, then drove to the airport! We ended up getting a delayed flight and were there for hours….. finally I said goodbye to Elder Sheesley, picked up Elder Larson and I DROVE THE CAR BACK. We got back to town, got some Kebab, emailed a bit, shopped, then to the apartment for a nice night!
Tuesday:
We got up and made some palaćinke for breakfast, yum 🙂 we then went and got everything in the car and headed off! (I was driving) we met Emir (The church lawyer) to grab some stuff, then we began the long journey! I drove us for 3 hours up to Tuzla. Beautiful Bosnian country! Once in Tuzla we dropped off Elder Larson, I picked up Elder Porter and we were off again! I was driving another 3 and a half hours to Banja Luka, it was so pretty! Eventually we made it there, and all went to get Burek for a late lunch. We said some goodbyes and I picked up Elder Swink 🙂 Then I drove for another 4 and a half hours back down to Sarajevo. Yes, I drove a car for 11 hours in one day, in europe. It was so great!
Wednesday:
We drove the car out to the senior couple. Then trammed back to our apartment. We went to the bosnian kitchen for some lunch. We spent lunch at the church doing stuff. We went to buy some food for Elder Swink, then to the apartment to transfer plan! It was good! We went out contacting and found some cool people!
Thursday:
We planned for district meeting. Had district meeting. Then went out contacting, we found some cool people that were really interested! We went back and had some Korean Beef for dinner, I like cooking 🙂 then made mormon.orgprofiles in Bosnian! Fun!
Friday:
We contacted like all day long O.o so much contacting. we found some cool people though! For dinner we came back and I made some homemade fried chicken. I figured out how 🙂 We contacted more then! Thats about it!
Saturday:
We went to the church to clean, it went about normal. Then we got a call from some people that we contacted. They wanted to meet up! It was great! So we went out to a place to meet them and they decided to go to a caffe for the lesson. Once there we were talking for about two hours. It is a couple, and she is………kind of crazy. (There are a lot of crazy people here) But he was super awesome! It was a good lesson!
We contacted the rest of the day!
Sunday:
We went to set up the church and have some meetings, always good and simple. We then had our regular church meetings, nothing too big, just us and 2 members really. We went and did some numbers, had some egg sandwiches, then contacted a while! For dinner we listened to music and had sausage sandwiches (We were pretty much out of food…) and it was just a good night!
Today(Danas):
We got up and did some studying, then decided to go out on an adventure! So I went and got a haircut, then we went through the pouring rain to a couple fortresses and overlooks, it was so cool! Pictures coming your way later 😀
It is so amazing out here! I cant believe how much I have come to learn! I am still Parker, but I am different, hard to explain. I just cant believe how much the mission has changed my life, and I know that it is the gospel that I am so into. I know it can change all of your lives to. Stay strong back at home! Good luck with everything! Volim Vas!
S Ljubavlju,
Elder Bowles 😀
I dont remember if I told you all, but I wanted to say that the investigator I had in Zagreb, Luka, Got baptized a week ago 🙂 I was sad I wasnt able to be there for the last lesson and baptism. But I am so glad I was able to be there for almost the whole process with such an amazing member. He is going to do great things in the Zagreb branch. But he was baptized and I am so happy for him 😀 That is just some happy news from a past investigator 😀

6 month milestone!!

Hello there everyone! How are all my favorite people doing? I hope that it has been an amazing week! I am very excited to here from you all more! Here will be another overview like every week!

Utorak:
We went contacting but didnt really find anyone. We went somewhere called Chipas for lunch, which was a nice chicken and fries place! Super good and they covered it with tons of sauce! Great time! We had our district meeting, the sister training leaders joined us from Banja Luka. So it was good to be with a big group again! After the meeting we had a lesson with Milomir. He pretty much just kept talking….for an hour and a half….
We taught english, but it was just Armin, so we just taught him a bunch of random words. We went back and made tacos!
Srijeda:
We went and got some stuff from Baščaršija (Old town) and then went to the church to skype the zone leaders, to teach the plan of salvation. It was good!! We went finding with no luck…we then watched the Young Single Adult Devo in Bosnian with a member who wanted to see it. We made some Curry chicken then went to teach someone named Irvin. He is baš muslim. So we taught the word of wisdom and he accepted!
Četvrtak:
We woke up to snow….I hate snow. We went to the BBI center to meet someone and buy some Qurans, yes, dont judge. Then went to find out transfers! Elder Sheesley will be in Sremska Mitrovica with Elder Taylor!!! I will be here in Sarajevo with Elder Swink! He was the Elder that took me contacting on my very first day in the field! We had some Intestinal Burek for lunch. Yes, made with Intestines. We had another lesson with Milomir, it went the same as the last…. We had english combined and just played games with them. Afterwords we just talked with some of the students and the sisters!
Petak:
My 6 month mark! Absolutely crazy! We had our normal studies, then met Irvin in the park. We got permission and went with him to a Mosque meeting. It was sooo insane! Islam is very different than I had thought. But I now know what they do in there! (Secrets ;D) We had ćevap for lunch, so good!!! We then went and taught someone at a caffe named Hazim. He is super awesome! We taught the plan of salvation, and he absolutely loved it!
Subota:
We went and cleaned the church. then we had to leave, so we went to Hem, the bosnian kitchen. I got some good goulash. Elder Sheesley felt sick, so we went to the apartment and he slept a while. We went back to the church to plan, and ran into this guy outside. He wanted to know about the church! So we talked with him and gave him a tour! He loved it! The reast of the night we were in the apartment with Elder Sheesley sick….
Nedjelja:
We went to church, Elder Sheesley got a balloon scavenger hunt for his birthday from the Sisters. It was great! We had a meeting and then church! The guy from the day before came! His name is Miro. For priesthood meeting, he was the only person, so we just taught him! It was great! The rest of the day we were in the apartment with Elder Sheesley sick. We just bonded and talked a lot XD
That is it for this week! I get to drive all over Bosnia tomorrow so I will see a lot! It will be really exciting! I hope you are all staying safe and having an amazing time at home! I love you all! You mean the world to me! Stay strong out there!
Love,
Elder Bowles

Moving on to Sarajevo!

DSCN0374[1]

So this has easily been the absolute craziest week of my entire life….I did not expect anything that happened…So I will explain…

Monday:
We had a regular morning, did some shopping and emailing, then went out to lunch with the APs to Nokturno. It was quite good! I got Ćevapi as normal. We all went to foodness and I got some Dr. Pepper and Flamin hot cheetos. Yum 🙂 We emailed a bit more then done with P-day stuff. After P-day we went out to the church and taught a lesson to Luka. It was Word of Wisdom. He accepted it completely and said he would throw away his cigarettes right there! It was a miracle! We went back home and thats about it!
Tuesday:
The craziness begins….We had our regular studies as normal. Then at about 9:45 we got a call from President Grant. He talked with Elder Frandsen for a minute then told him to put the phone on speaker. Once on speaker he asked if I was listening, then he broke the news….He said within 48 hours I would be down in Sarajevo for an emergency transfer O.o He told me to get to the office fast and talk to Elder Halling. So we did and he gave me a bunch of papers to go deregister at the MUP. We spent a bit at the mup and then had district meeting, where everyone else found out that I was leaving. Sad moment a bit. We all went to Karaka for lunch. Afterwords we had english class which went well, then out to the Amelios one last time. We had a good lesson, but it was super sad to leave them for the last time…
Wednesday:
MY LAST DAY IN ZAGREB. We had studies and did an apartment check. We went out and did a bit of last minute souvenir getting, I got a scarf and jersey. We went to lunch at Submarine BBQ and I got to listen to MUSE while I ate my burger 🙂 needless to say, I was happy. Then we went to Cookie Factory with Kristijan for the last time. It was super good to hang out one last time. We had to go do a car exchange at the mission home and then out to the church for a lesson with Luka. Law of Chastity! It went super super well and we said our last goodbyes! We then drove clear out to the airport and picked up Elder Graham. He is a New Zealander who is Elder Frandsens new companion. We spent the rest of the night packing up!
Thursday:
We hurried and finished packing/getting ready. Then drove out to give the APs a phone. We went back to the apartment and made some breakfast burritos. Then out to bring my bags to the office. We walked through the city one last time so I could see everything again. Then the three of us drove out to the airport. We waited a bit, but once it was close, I went through security, and was ALONE. I waited a while alone, then boarded the plane, and flew down to Sarajevo… ALONE. It was the weirdest feeling, plus flying!!! Šta?? We got to the airport and I greeted my new companion….ELDER SHEESLEY. Thats right! We´re back!!! We came back to the apartment, unpacked, then taught english. We spent the rest of the night unpacking. I LOVE THIS CITY.
Friday:
We spent the whole morning out at the MUP getting me legal to live here. Then we went and ate some real Bosnian Ćevapi. IT WAS HEAVENLY. We went and had to do a Visa medical check and I had to have blood drawn…I dont like it!! We did our weekly planning, then went tracting! I still dont like that so much. But this city is so cool!

Saturday:
We did studies, then had to go clean the car and get it out to the senior couple. So that was a fun time. We went to lunch at this Bosnian home kitchen. It was super good! Man, food here is amazing and delicious. We contacted for a while. Then went to clean the church. It is a lot smaller than what I am used to. We then went and taught a lesson to someone named Alma. She owns a chess club, and we taught the plan of salvation. Went well!
Sunday:
We did a little studies then off to church! We had a meeting in the morning with the Branch President. He is from Kaysville Utah, and he is living here in the embassy. We then had church. A total of 9 members…whoo! So different than Utah. I had to give a talk and translate for myself. So I just gave two of the same talk, in two languages! Church is only two hours long. Afterwords President Grant brought over the rest of my luggage, that I left in Zagreb to fly, and we went home. We made hamburgers for lunch, then contacted till dinner. Well…we mainly contacted the rest of the night.
IM WITH ELDER SHEESLEY AGAIN….but just for the next week, next transfer I do get a new companion…but this week will be great!

A bit about Sarajevo:
Muslims everywhere….they have mosques here like they have lds churches in Utah. Every corner in the whole city. They do this thing called the call to prayer, where they sing in Arabic over loud speakers to the whole city, signaling that it is prayer time. It is super cool sounding. The city is still SUPER war torn, buildings just lined with bullet holes, it is cool!
I love it here! This is more what I expected this mission to be like actually. And now I am speaking a different language again….great.

I love you all! Thank you all for everything! You all mean the world to me!
Prijatno!

Biography of David Bowie

So this has been a pretty good week! We got a lot of lessons and contacting in! We had some interesting experiences and a even an exchange (short and sweet!) It was a successful week I would say! Time really is just speeding up the longer I am here. It is crazy!

Monday:
We just contacted the rest of the night after Emails. nothing really new there…
Tuesday:
We hunted for some desserts for our desert we needed to make the next day for our meeting. We were seriously avoiding solicitors, they are all over the square O.o I feel bad turning them all down! We eventually got some Burek for lunch, They finally had meat again! My first meat one this transfer! It was so good, and so bad for me XD We came and had a district meeting, which was well. We contacted a bit, but nothing really. We taught english, same old bakas XD nothing new there either! We then went and bought some stuff, I bought a David Bowie biography in Croatian XD It is good language practice!
Wednesday:
We came to the office to help Elder Halling with something. We had to drive some snow tires out to the dealership to put them on the car. So that ate up our study time! We did our studies afterwords. Then we tried this new american restaurant called Submarine BBQ. It was good except their hot sauce wasn’t very good O.o We ended up going to the Hallings for a “Party”. It was the missionary broadcast, like missionary general conference! It was really cool and we got to listen to a ton of the apostles speak to us. It was really cool for them to directly talk to us! We even watched it live!
Thursday:
We went to get an address from the office and then got some McDonalds for lunch. We hopped on a tram and rode WAY out to Novi Zagreb to teach someone named Petar. He was this super nice old guy that gave us fruit juice and oranges and just loved us! It was great! We came back and got lost….lots of Tram jumping XD We got back and planned english and then taught a class. Not much to talk about. We went and had dinner. I made some breakfast burritos, luckily they have tortillas out here 😀 We then came back to the office to teach a lesson to Marko again. He is really super awesome. He said that he knows the Book of Mormon is true. He just needs some time right now. It was sad to let him go, but needed for now. Hopefully one day he will come back.
Friday:
We went to Nokturno for lunch. Thats about that. We waited at the office for an investigator that never showed up….after a while of contacting we went back to the office to meet up for our exchange with the AP’s. We looked around for a while for some book binding place, but nothing…. Then we all split up and Elder Petersen and I went out to the apartment to make dinner. We made some Alfredo, it was quite good! We then had to hurry out to the Amelios for a lesson. It was a really good lesson and they are progressing so well! They want to get baptized in the spring. So we just need to keep them progressing. Then we talked about getting sealed as a family, Mateo was so excited to get sealed to his parents one day. It was great 😀 We came back and had some marble cake, then just talked until it was time to sleep!
Saturday:
We did some studies. I taught Elder Petersen how to make cinnamon toast! It would be awesome to serve with him one day! We then went out to the church to clean with Igor. We switched back companions there and separated. Me and Elder Frandsen went to get some Kebab and Cookie factory for lunch. Then to the office to do some planning. We went and did our weekly planning. Then contacting….nothing….
Sunday:
We went out to the church. Sister Allred was super sick, so They stayed home and I had to play piano….yeah it did not go very well XD Oh well! Luka came and brought some friends and it was really cool! Elder Frandsen met with him while I was out at the Amelios. He is still looking good for next Saturday! We talked with Kristijan after church and then headed back home. I made some Ramen for lunch. Then to the office to do some numbers. I watched some videos, there was one in particular that was the closest representation to this mission I have found. (http://www.mormonchannel.org/watch/series/two-brothers-two-1/two-brothers-two-tommys-mission) That pretty aptly describes what these missions are like….except ours is still smaller in numbers than that….
We contacted a bit then I made some tacos for dinner. Mainly just meat in a tortilla…but it was good anyway!
This week was really good and full of miracles. I can’t believe that things are just going so fast. In the moment sometimes they feel really slow, but in hindsight, I do not feel like I have been out here for 6 months already….
I know that things get tough. We don’t feel good enough. We don’t feel we live up. We get discouraged. But I know that we can make it through any challenges that we face. As my brother sad, “Bad times can’t last forever. No matter how bleak it may be, It will always get better.” I know that we will always have the strength we need. The Lord will never give us more than we can handle. Only enough to keep us growing and progressing. We just need to allow ourselves to be changed. I know that we can endure. Just keep holding on.
Love you all! Volim Vas! Vi To Možete!
S Ljubavlju,
Elder Bowles 😀

BOK BOK SVIMA!

DSCN0294[1]

Bok Bok Svima!

It has been a fun week of teaching, and exciting moments, and contacting and all the cool fun things! I will now disclose my fun experiences over this past week! Bear with me!
Tuesday:
Had studies as always. Then went to the MUP, Elder Frandsen is now legal to live in Zagreb! Whoo! We did some computer work and then went to the Sri Lankan food place again. SO GOOD. It is a fantastic thing to eat Indian food (thank you Shayla for introducing me to it :D) We contacted for a while and planned for english! We taught english which went pretty well, nothing super noteworthy though….
Wednesday: We contacted to the office then had a lesson with Igor! We talked about free agency and what that means. It was good! He was all over the place though O.o Balkans just like to talk and talk and talk and talk……we went to pingvin for lunch and had some nice sandwiches 😀 always a successful meal! A little later we came back and gave one of the Sisters a blessing cuz they were sick, and I did it O.o scary times! But it went well and I really felt the spirit in there! We waited for an investigator to come to a lesson, he never did….that night all the Christmas decorations were taken down and I was sad…So I made myself microwave pizza bites for dinner.
Thursday:
We trammed out to pick up Sister Allreds shoes from a repair place and some crazy guy was talking to us on the tram. “He had crazy eyes” O.o we picked up the stuff and headed back to district meeting. I had the lesson so I put together a quiz and talking about our purpose. It was a good lesson I think! We went out to the hospital to visit a member but their room was quarantined…so we left O.o we came and taught english and it went pretty well! Made some garlic noodles for dinner 😀
Friday:
Zone conference has fallen into the mission! We went straight out to the church and set up for the conference! I played piano for a bit 😀 I can kind of play Hymns now! It’s a start! Then I got to chat with some of my MTC pals! good time! We had conference and learned a ton about repentance. It was great! then we had some pizza for lunch and practiced teaching the Plan of Salvation for a while! After the conference we cleaned up. Talked with a member for a while and got ready for a lesson. It was with our Investigator Dario. He just really really wanted to know about Repentance. It was good and a nice intense deep doctrinal lesson!
Saturday:
We went to the church to help Igor clean! It went well, there was another member there named Dragan so it was good! Igor is just a happy little innocent old guy. He kept asking questions about things in the Girls bathroom that we refused to answer XD We came back and went to Nokturno and I got a pizza 😀 european pizza, I don’t like as much as american…… we went back to the church for our mission coordination meeting. It went well and Luka is just awesome to work with, I see him and only think of Inego Montoya. Great! We then had a lesson with President Sambunjak and his referral Luka. It went fantastic and we talked about the plan of salvation, and it was a really great lesson! He is so awesome!
Sunday:
We went out to the church for our regular meetings. LUKA CAME!!! He stayed the whole three hours even! It was great! after church we got a ride home with the AP’s and mad some Ramen 😀 still the same here! (Actually a bit better, and cheaper). We went and did some numbers and such at the office, then went and gave our bills to the Landlady, and did weekly planning! For dinner I made some breakfast burritos, good times 😀
It has been a good week full of miracles even if it doesn’t look like a ton. Every second I have to be out here seriously is a miracle. I am so grateful to be part of such an amazing mission and to be doing such amazing things out here. I know this is where I am supposed to be. I know that this church is true and that I can make it through any hardship by holding on to what I know is true. I am so grateful for this experience!
I love you all so much and you all mean the world to me! Stay strong, remember that any trial has an end, any difficulty will get better, and any hardship will pass.
Love you all!
S Ljubavlju,

Finding,teaching and being missionary like!

DSCN0291[1]Well this week has been quite a crazy, successful, different week out here! I LEFT ZAGREB FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE I ARRIVED! But I will get into that fun stuff later in my E-mail! It has been a good time full of finding, teaching, and being missionary like! Here we start!

Monday:
After P-day ended we got some snow shovels and went around the city! We cleaned up a lot of street corners and made it able for people to actually walk. thats about it though!
Tuesday:
My official 5 month mark! Crazy! We were walking around and a couple guys stopped us and were like trying to force us to drink coffee for a taste test! They wouldn’t let us leave for like 10 minutes! eventually we escaped and ate Sri Lankan food for lunch. IT WAS DELICIOUS. It was like this ball of strange meets and curry sauce. Then the guys offered us a free shot of Vodka O.o why does everyone want us drinking and such??  we politely declined 😉 and headed out to contact and do some computer work. We took our dinner break and I just transcribed lyrics from songs 😀 We had english class but nothing really happened. Then we got a GIANT hot dog for dinner 😀 yum! We had rain that was falling and freezing before it hit the ground…it was terrible…
Wednesday:
We had some contacting in the morning. We went to get Burek for lunch but they were out of meat…so I just went and had McDonalds for lunch 😀 We spent our lunch hour exploring google earth and maps 😀 we contacted some more then we met the Karlovac elders at our apartment and I left with Elder Poore on exchange to Karlovac! The drive was about 45 minutes or so. Once there we got caught in a blizzard O.o but eventually we made it to the senior couples house! They fed us homemade Chicken Noodle soup. Good (Not as good as my moms). But then we went to the apartment and planned for a bit. We hit the streets and talked to some cool people whilst trudging through the blizzard! Back at the apartment Elder Poore taught me how to Juggle 😀
Thursday:
We did studies as always. Then hit the streets! we talked to some cool people, but nothing huge. We came back and made stroganoff for lunch as I analyzed my Hymn book 😀 We hit the streets again! Then planned english. Then the streets again! then we had english! Our class never showed up, so we stayed in the Sisters class. Afterwords we played ping pong in the “Church” (More just the upper floor of a building). We went back to the apartment and had a Palačinke party! We were putting some weird stuff on it 😀 We did have a snowball fight though!
Friday: We did studies in the morning. Then had a surprise apartment check so we deep cleaned the apartment. After that we headed back up to Zagreb! We arrived, said our goodbyes, and I was once again with Elder Frandsen! We got some Nokturno for lunch then to get some stuff at the office done. We had a lesson with an older Less active named Tihomir, he was super awesome and he was so easy to understand and it was great! We went back to the apartment and I made some tacos with my Christmas stuff 😀
Saturday:
We went out to the church to help Igor clean. It was great! Then we came back and went to have lunch at Jazz.Ba. A Ćevapi place! super good as always! That place really makes me want to go down to Sarajevo! We did our weekly planning which went great! Then we went out to meet with another less active named Mladen. He was super nice, just hard for him to get to church because of the distance!
Sunday:
We went out to the church as normal and had our regular meetings. TONS of less actives at church this week! It was great! I got to lead the music, so I was a lot more comfortable there 😀 We talked with the missionaries a bit then trammed home with Kristijan. Twas a good time! At the apartment I ate left over tacos whilst listening to Croatian talks CUZ I CANT UNDERSTAND. We went back out to the church and had a lesson with a Referral. It went great!! We showed him around the church and taught the Restoration. THEN HE ACCEPTED A BAPTISMAL DATE! It was fantastic!
It has been a great week! We saw a lot of success, I got to experience a different city, it was just wonderful:D I look forward to this next week! I want you all to know how much I love you and how much you all mean to me! You are all the world to me and it is so great to hear from you all every week! Keep being amazing and always stay strong and remember who you are!
Volim Vas!

PS. If you listen to the song “Prayer of the Children” (great song) near the end of the song it says something in a different language. It says “Da li čujete sve dječje molitve?” which is Bosnian for ” Can you hear all of the Childrens Prayer?”
Just a fun fact 😀
